The match began with both teams coming out strong, and the first half saw few clear-cut chances. Driffield’s midfield, anchored by Moore, Burgess, Wilson and Bryan controlled possession and looked to create opportunities, but the Sheffield University Bankers’ defense was organized, and put in solid some performances to block the Driffield attackers.
Sheffield’s forward line, tried to break through Driffield’s defense, but Bannister, Smith, Welburn and Percival were solid at the back, making vital clearances whenever needed. The half time score stood at 0-0.

The second half saw both teams turn up the intensity, pushing forward in search of the game’s first goal. Driffield had several near-misses, but the Sheffield keeper was in great form.

With time running out and the game seemingly heading for a draw, Driffield’s persistence paid off in the final two minutes. After a well-executed break, Burgess made a quick pass to Walker-Rouse, who was positioned perfectly with a run into the goal. Walker-Rouse made no mistake, taking the Sheffield keeper on in a head to head and slipping it past into the net to give Driffield a 1-0 lead. Driffield erupted as the last minute goal had secured a hard-fought victory.
