Yet another thrilling game on the pitch, and our team truly shone! Riona Welburn was a formidable presence in goal, with defenders Vikki Bannister, Charlotte Smith, Lucy Welburn, and Kirsty Edmond providing solid support. They displayed excellent play at the back, expertly distributing the ball to our midfielders, which set the pace for the game.
Our midfielders—Amy Moore, Phoebe Goodlass, Meg Sellar, and Hannah Atkinson—interlinked brilliantly, creating fantastic opportunities for the forwards. Hannah mesmerised us with her beautiful dribbling in the D, earning us a short corner after putting the ball on a Leeds foot. Bronwyn Walker-Rouse then pushed the ball to the top of the D, where Amy expertly drag-flicked it into the net. Spirits were high, and we were buzzing for more as the half-time whistle blew.
Half-time brought us succulent oranges and sweets, filling us with energy for the second half. We came out strong, with some stunning balls down the wing from our wing backs. The forward line of Clemmie Bottomley, Bronwyn and Polly worked tirelessly running the base line, but unfortunately the Leeds defence held strong. Bronwyn made an impressive run and passed to Meg, whose shot deflected off Polly Burgess's stick, hitting the keeper's head and rolling back into the net. It was a great game overall, with lovely hockey played by all.
A special shoutout to Donkey Bronwyn for bringing her dog along! Joint players of the match this week go to Vikki and Amy. Now, we look forward to the local derby against Scarborough next week!
