The match we all dreaded was here, as it was our derby game and never a nice one, so a trip to Tranby school was taken.

From the start, Driffield were on their heels and defending every Hull attack with aplomb. Hull were quick to pounce on Driffield when we had the ball, and quick thinking was required. The defence was faced with a sea of Yellow on every free hit but Driffield held them off, and the first half was still level at halftime.

After captains Amy’s half-time team talk, Driffield found their feet and had deduced how to thwart the Hull attacks and had many of their own through the yellow wall. Numerous short corners for both sides went unrewarded until Hull’s obnoxious captain claimed a well-executed short corner drag into the roof of the net.

Driffield never gave up and strung some lovely passes up and around the pitch. Despite Hull’s attempt to outsmart Driffield with tactics unnecessary at this level of hockey and against juniors, Driffield held them off, and the score remained a 1-0 loss.

The team is improving with every match and getting used to playing together after a splattering of new players joined the squad at the start of the season. All these close results the 2’s are getting can be overturned when we play these teams again.
