On Saturday 26th October, Driffield Ladies 2’s played University of Leeds 2’s at home. The game started of strong as Driffield had a lot of possession dominating the game. With a strong defensive back ( Emily Brightling, Amy Moore, Lucy Welburn, Meg Sellar, Sue Morgan, Phoebe Goodlass) we managed to maintain this possession, pushing the ball forwards allowing Polly Burgees to direct the ball into the back of the net. Unfortunately despite our best efforts after this, the University of Leeds swung the score round to 3-1 in the space of the 15 minutes as to when we scored. With a couple more missed shorts on goal, Driffield were devastated at half time to come off and be the losing team. With no oranges due to Kirsty Edmond’s day off, Captain Moore lifted the disappointing aura that surrounded the team and refuelled everyone with motivation for the second half. During the second half, Driffield again manage to maintain possession up and out of their half, making lighter work for Goalkeeper Shanie Burton. The forwards and midfielders ( Clemmie Bottomley, Bronwyn Walker-Rouse, Bella Thompson, Burgess, Hannah Atkinson and Emily Collinge) pressing and attacking in the oppositions defensive quarter allowed the ladies to gain another goal, Burgess pushing it in with an assist from Walker-Rouse. This made Driffield hungry for another goal. With a battle on for another 13 minutes the full time whistle finally went.
Unlucky end score but well played ladies.
