On a sunny morning, Driffied ladies 2s were faced with a local derby match, upon arrival, some familiar faces welcomed them with open arms.
From the off, Scarborough were moving the ball quickly up the pitch which resulted in a short corner, despite great efforts from Smith, Hayter, Edmond, Welburn and Moore a drag flick secured Scarborough a 1 nil lead. Driffield then made some great linkage play between Sellar, Moore, Southwell and Goodlass, the ball was moved up the pitch, unfortunately Scarborough intercepted this beautiful play and they attacked Driffield down the right to pick up another goal. Driffield continued to apply pressure, with Burgess, Bottomley and Thompson creating a strong press in front of Scarborough, intercepting play where possible. Scarborough continued to push forward and this resulted in 2 further goals. The whistle was blown and it was 4 nil at half time. Captain Moore gave a really positive team talk whilst being sufficed with the finest oranges.
Driffield did not give up, full backs Welburn and Smith were successfully distributing the ball to Leeson, Burgess and Bottomley, however Scarborough continued to block the play. Hayter made some fantastic saves, but Scarborough were awarded further short corners which secured them another goal. Despite Driffield’s efforts, Scarborough secured 3 further goals, the final whistle was blown and the end result was 8 - nil. Driffield 2s look forward to the next match in a hope to secure some further points.
