For the first game of the season the 2nds travelled to Selby, missing a few of the usual squad. Selby started the game strong with Driffield soon finding their feet in the heat. Hannah Atkinson and Andriana making some progressive runs down the right wing looking to drive the baseline. Polly was a strong link in the D looking to present striking opportunities, with Amy covering all bases in the midfield. Kirstie initiated some strong transfers across the back to Lucy and Charlotte, allowing Meg to strike the ball up the right wing, Sophie then had an accurate shot on target, saved on the line by the keeper. As the first half was coming to an end a quick break from Selby allowed for a high shot at keeper Riona, to which she saved and quickly cleared. Half time came leaving us 2-0 down.

After an encouraging half time morale boost from Captain Amy, we pressed on in the 2nd half with Hannah Southwell scoring from the post 17 minutes in taking the score to 2-1. Not long after we were awarded a penalty flick for a foot on the goal line. Fiona stepped up for the team, but a great save was made by the Selby keeper, ensuring we did not equalise.
