Driffield Ladies 1st team had the pleasure of entertaining Durham City Ladies Hockey team on Saturday for their 4th league game of the season. After a convincing win first off against Leeds the ladies were coming out on the back of 2 disappointing performances against Rotherham and Sheffield and a win was much needed. The game started fast and Driffied were convincing and determined, scoring a cracking goal within the first 5 minutes. A fantastic cross from Rebecca found Amber in the D for a solid, strong push into the goal - Durham were woken up! A couple of minutes later and Durham proved they were not going to be a pushover scoring an equaliser. The game was tense but another great goal came from Bry who nipped the ball neatly into the back of the goal. Driffield were starting to settle and there were some lovely quick passes up the pitch eventually resulting in a goal for Rebecca. Durham came back to score their second but a short corner just before halftime saw some nifty in/out action from Fiona to score her second of the game. Half time and the score was 4:2 to Driff. An encouraging team talk from Captain Bry emphasising the press and maintaining our structure led us into the second half. Maybe a little lapse in concentration from the Driff girls saw Durham close the gap quickly and the score was 4 all! The Driffield Ladies were not going to let this go and battled hard. A second goal from Bry put the team back in front and for the last 10 minutes the team concentrated hard on keeping possession and protecting our goal - they did successfully and the girls had a well deserved win under their belts. A great team effort with Lucy Russel winning Girlie for the second week running but votes for Rosie, Bry, Fiona, Kate, Rebecca and Amber showed what a true team effort it had been! As per usual Katie (Tom) won Donkey! Onwards and Upwards team!
